02 God Created Humans

UNIT #:
I
Lesson Theme:
Each of us is unique. God has created us as individuals according to his plan.
Aim:

God saw his creation was good, but he saw that creating humankind was very good. In other words, God thinks we are awesome.

Bible Passage:

Genesis 2:4-7

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

Another Account of the Creation

In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground— then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.

Teacher’s Preparation:

In the story of creation, we learn from the Bible that all creation originated with God's word. He spoke and it was so. Man is special because he was made in God's image. In His image was man created. God touched us with His fingers and breathed life into us. How precious we are in His eyes. Life is precious because it is from God. He also made male and female to be together. This was God's design.

Main Ideas:

Building Blocks

For thousands of years, people have wondered how we and our world came to be. Some people today still puzzle over the very same question. Many people have come up with different theories, like a cosmic explosion, but when you take a look at yourself and the people around you, it's plain that only an amazing  Creator could achieve what we see today creating a part of the world,

Each day, when God had finished creating a part of the world, He said that it was “good.” However, after he had created man and woman, he said that it was very good.

Each of us are like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Have you ever done one of those? Every piece is different, but without one of them, the puzzle is not complete. God's plan is not complete without one of us, so each person is very important and “good” to God.

Activities:

On cardstock paper make a printout of the creation page from resources (http://coloringpageshub.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Creation-Coloring...). Have the children color these pictures. Then cut out into jigsaw puzzle pieces. Let them have fun putting it back together. Say, "Just as the picture is not complete without one of the pieces in the puzzle, God created each of us for a purpose and we have to do our part in His world. What is your part?

Lesson Review:

Vocabulary:

creation: something that has been made (in this case, by God)

cosmic: relating to the orderly universe

unique: special and different

Values for Life:

Each of us are like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Have you ever done one of those? Every piece is different, but without one of them, the puzzle is not complete. God's plan is not complete without one of us, so each person is very important and “good” to God.

Life Response/My Decision:

I am precious in God's eyes. He has a plan for me.

Memory Verse:

Ephesians 2:10

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Closing Prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you for making me special and precious. Help me to know your will in my life.

Amen.
