01 God the Creator

UNIT #:
I
Lesson Theme:
God created all things from the very beginning.
Aim:

• To learn how God created this wonderful world and focus on Day 7 • We are placed in this world to glorify God and praise his name

Bible Passage:

Genesis 2:1-3

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.

Genesis 2:18-22

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” 19 So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.

Teacher’s Preparation:
  • Begin the class by asking the students “Who made you?” GOD.  Ask the children to name other things that God has made.
  • Use the attached visual aid to show what God created each day and consider using these as handouts for the students to color.\

Student Introduction to the lesson

Teacher should ask the students:

  • If they have visited a zoo or garden. Ask if they have a flower or vegetable garden at home.
  • What do the plants need to grow (Sunlight, water, etc?)
  •  What do animals need to grow? (Food, water, etc.)
  • Who has created  the human beings,  the  animals and  plants on the earth, the sun,  moon and the sky

Main Ideas:
  • God created the heaven and earth in 6 days and he rested  on the 7th day
  • God created the sky, water in the sea, plants, animals, fish in the sea and finally man (Adam) to work in the garden of Eden and to take care of it
  • God did not want Adam to be alone. So, he created a perfect helper for him (Eve)
Activities:

Supply students with an image of God creating Eve from Adam. Consider also a puppet show / role play of this story if the resources (teacher’s aides) allow.

Activities2:
Lesson Review:
  • God made all plants, animals, the heavens and earth.
  • God created Adam and did not want him to be alone, so He created Eve.
Values for Life:

Everything we have comes from God.  He is the one who created everything from the beginning of time.

Memory Verse:

Colossians 1:16a

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

16 For in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible

Closing Prayer:

Dear God,
We thank you for creating this beautiful world that we live in.  We thank you for the green grass, the clean water and all the animals that live here.  Thank you for creating us and letting us enjoy all that you have given.  Let us take care of everything you made just as you like.  Amen.
